gotan project

I haven't posted in a while. I was very busy last week and got sick towards the end of the week. I did go see a great concert on Sunday evening though. Alisa and I went to see Gotan Project. They are a very interesting / amazing group in the somewhat bland world of live electronica. We are lucky enough in live in SF, which as far as I can tell is their only stop in the US except for Couchella. I get the feeling that a lot of bands like to play SF. I think we make a good crowd. Anyway, they had three violinists, a cellist, a pianist, an accordion player, singer, guitar player, and two DJs. Even with that many people on stage, it worked well. Their mix of electronica, tango beaks, and indigenous Argentine music is truly a mashup worth it's own genre!

ruben's tube

I found this great video on YouTube of a Ruben's Tube. This kind of stuff makes me really want a warehouse space or at least a garage to mess around in!

science scout

The Order of the Science Scouts of Exemplary Repute and Above Average Physique at the University of British Columbia has a number of great merit badges for geeks. I thing this one might describe me the best:

The "I can be a prick when it comes to science" badge.
In which the recipient can be so passionate about things of a scientific nature, that he/she may appear surly, rude, and/or unpleasant.

beard

I was out of work for a while so I decided to grow a beard like any self respecting man on the dole would do. It seems really thin in the photo, but I am surprised that it is as thick as it is.

Now I can check off beard growing from the things I wanted to do at least once in my life. I am not so sure I will do it again.

back tattoo

This is the tattoo on my back. I and Greg Kulz (at Sacred Rose in SF) designed it. Here is also one of the original concept drawings I did:

401(k) rollover

I have been looking for a good place to rollover my 401(k) into an IRA. After spending tons of time collecting information like custodial fees, transaction costs, and the like, I found a website that has done it all already. It also seems relatively active in terms of updates. The website is broker-reviews.us. You can also look at the list sorted in terms of different criteria by going to the link at the top of the page labeled "More Broker Lists".
